Meet Our Veterinarians

Our vets all have unique skills, both in veterinary medicine and outside of it! Yet all their efforts go into the treatment and care of your furry friends. Get to know our team online and make an appointment soon to meet them in person!

Dr. Michelle Messner

Dr. Messner started working for Dr. John Toth in April of 1993 and on January 1, 1994, she became the practice owner and the name Creekside Animal Clinic came into being. She truly likes being in the N.E. Ohio area… well, maybe not the cold part 🙂 Dr. Messner looks forward to every day spent working with her patients, clients, staff, associates, and colleagues at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. She has three children (so far, not one has shown an inclination to be a vet), and she is a teaching Black Belt in Taekwondo. She also teaches SCUBA diving with a local dive shop.

Dr. Amy Cummings

Dr. Cummings grew up in Wadsworth and West Akron and started working at Creekside while in high school. After graduating from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, she moved to Utah and practiced there for several years. Family eventually drew her back to North East Ohio, and she joined the team at Creekside in October of 2013. Dr. Cummings has years of experience in both general practice and emergency medicine. She enjoys surgery and educating her clients so they can become the best pet parents they can be. Dr. Cummings currently lives in New Franklin with her husband, Tim, her sons, Sutter, and twin boys, Marcus and Davis, a black Lab named Wrigley, two rotten cats, and two dozen laying hens. In her free time, which she never seems to have, she enjoys jogging, reading, and drinking wine.

Dr. Brian Crane

Dr. Crane joined the Creekside team in January 2014. He was born and raised in North Dakota and came to us when his wife, Dr. Ashley Crane, took a position at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. He did his undergraduate at the University of Nebraska and then went on to Iowa State University for vet school. His wife, Dr. Ashley Crane, also joined our practice in 2019! They have one daughter Ellie; five cats named Arnold, Curtis, B, Squeak, and General Custer; and one dog: Diaper. Dr. Crane’s hobbies include exercising, movies (particularly older ones), and sampling recipes with his wife.

Dr. Ashley Crane

Dr. Ashley Crane hails from Iowa - the REAL Midwest. She met her husband, Brian, in veterinary school at Iowa State University. After graduating, the Cranes moved to Ohio, where Dr. Ashley started an internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. She stayed on and worked with the neurology service for several years prior to practicing primary care. Dr. Ashley still enjoys neurology, however, she most enjoys the relationships she builds with clients from the time she sees their pet as a puppy or kitten until their pet is a senior citizen. Dr. Ashley enjoys spending time with her family, watching and re-watching Game of Thrones, cheering on the Green Bay Packers (we are working on that! Go Browns!), and defeating her husband in fantasy football.

Dr. Carlen Ledain

Dr. Ledain grew up in Queens, New York and did her undergraduate studies at Florida International University in Miami. She studied abroad at Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Ledain joined Creekside Animal Clinic as an associate in January of 2018 after finishing a short-term internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital. She enjoys small animal and emergency medicine. She is excited to learn and grow as a young doctor. In her free time, Dr. Ledain enjoys salsa dancing, painting, reading, drinking wine, and watching scary movies. Dr. Ledain lives in Wadsworth with her two beta fish, Echo and Sonar, her spoiled cat, Jolie, and her neurotic dog, Dex. They are trying hard to readjust to the cold after enjoying life in the islands for a few years. The sun is truly missed!

Dr. Megan Vessalo

Dr. Megan Vessalo joined our staff in 2018. She went to vet school at Ohio State University and graduated in 2010. She then went on to do a small animal rotation internship at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Vessalo is happy to be back home in Ohio with her husband and son after living in South Carolina for a few years.

“I can’t give Dr. Messner, and the employees who work here, enough praise! Having had a terrible experience with a different vet clinic, my faith in veterinarians had diminished. That was until I came upon Creekside and its wonderful staff. My faith has been restored, and I know my fur babies are receiving the absolute best care when we visit Dr. Messner. She is the best veterinarian, and Creekside is hands-down the best animal clinic around!”

- Kelly Y.

“Will never take our animals anywhere else. Great doctors and staff. I know that when I walk through those doors that my pets are in the most capable and very caring hands. Special thanks to Dr. Cummings. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion and excellent care you always provide to our babies.”

- Sue S.

“I always feel like my Mastiffs and French Bulldogs are in the best hands when Dr. Messner and her crew take care of them!”

- Tina C.

“All our foster dogs have gone to Creekside. The entire staff is friendly and answer all my questions. I would highly recommend Creekside to anyone looking for a place to take their pets.”

- Julie S.

“I can not thank you all enough (especially Carol) for the kindness while having to put down my cat Walter. It wasn't easy for me but your kindness and true compassion made it easier. What a blessing you are to the animal world.”

- Heidi P.

“Very pleased with everyone here, we are newer clients and our dog had what we thought was an injured shoulder on a Saturday, they quickly got us an appointment and were very understanding when she turned out to be fine, just a drama queen. Sorry she's a big faker but I appreciated having my mind eased after numerous cries from her that morning.”

- Jill R.

“The staff and doctor treat you like family. They always take the time to listen to your concerns. They are very caring and know you and your pet by name.”

- Jennifer G.

“This wonderful vet took my baby in right away when his foot was gushing blood and i was a mess! They fixed him up with a smile. This will be our permanent vet from now on. They are very calm and very sweet here! So impressed with Creekside! Not too mention the staff are very nice and the building is very clean! So impressed with everything here!”
